Is that the date of the op-rod or is that for the total rifle build? Any of you Garand experts out there know?

That is the op rod build date. The rifle looks to either have been re parkerized or it could be unissued. If unissued its well worth its price. Looks lik the receiver is in great shape and the rear sight ears have no dents or wear so IMO it never saw combat prob sat in a crate. The stock does look used though. If you look at all the parts that's the only way to tell if its a correct grade. Look over at the cmp forum. Its a wealth of garand knowledge. Great looking rifle you have though.

Also I believe the gas plug is incorrect for a 1943 springfield which would make it not be a correct grade but gas plugs are cheap and a correct one coul be found easily enough but I'm not an expert on these.

My mistake I couldn't tell if that was the barrel or op rod from the pics

Those markings are on the barrel; nice rifle.
