I just finished reading Boddington's Tracks Across Africa which was a good read. I'm going back to Karamojo Safari by Bell to finish it up( not so good for me ). The one I'm looking forward to next is The Long Rifle by White. Has anybody read anything by Stewart Edward White?

I did. A long time ago. I don't remember it as being anything stellar. Try Karamojo Bells " Bell of Africa" Its his memoirs and a real interesting read..

No, I have not read any. Never heard of him until I read this thread. I do think original source material can be valuable and useful and fun.

Try Karamojo Bells " Bell of Africa" Its his memoirs and a real interesting read.. along with Bell......i recently loaned a member here whose African book experiance was basically Capstick books by John Burger, J.A. Hunter and Jim Sutherland and he thought they were excellent.....they are who i generally recommend when someone has read Capstick and are looking to expand.....especially Burger's "Horned Death" and Hunter's "Hunter"......as good of storytellers as Capstick though not as flowery in their descriptions.....
A serious student of the "Armchair Safari" always looking for Africa/Asia hunting books

I read it the first time a long time ago, he wrote it in 1932, and liked it ok. Just reread it and still thought it was pretty good. Haven't read anything else by him. There was some info about White in the forward part this book. He was born in 1873 besides being a writer he was also supposed to have done a lot of hunting including Africa back in the early part of the century which he also wrote about.

I have a photo of him from when he was in New Zealand on a hunting trip, probably pre-WW1 - he is holding a lever action rifle and the picture is used as an edorsement for Lyman sights. So he was known as a hunter in his day.

I probably have 15 or so of his books ,and find them all good reading. In one there was a signed photo of him and his wife holding a 250-3000 savage!!! Don
