Anybody ever seen it expressed as a metric cartridge? 7.62x___???

My old European catalogs just call it a.....300 Savage, and my friend's 1950s FN Mauser .300 has only the bore size marked on the bottom of the barrel; no metric cartridge/chamber size where it would normally be. On the side of the barrel it's marked .300 Savage.

I believe some of these were also made in .250-3000 and are so marked, although I have no idea what the metric designation for that would be either.

(The one I've examined in .257 Roberts was marked 6.35x57 Roberts under the barrel, which makes sense).

Never seen a metric name for either the 300 Savage or 250-3000.

Guess I'll have to get out the calipers and invent one!

Or use a calculator. 47.5mm will get you there so you could call it a 7.62x48mm, since I'm inclined to round up.

Just doesn't have the ring to it like "Three Hunnert Savage".

Slightly off topic, but a 358WIN is called a 8.8MM in Europe for
some reason.

I guess an extra half-millimeter onto the .300 Savage neck wouldn't actually HURT none!

Don't metrics go by groove instead of bore?
