There's all kinds of clearance with the talley lightweight lows. See first pic of my 270 fwt with 3-9x40. The only way I'd go medium is if I had a huge ocular to contend with or an objective larger than 42-44 mm..

A couple of other options.

Good old Conetrol's on a custom pre-war 270.

Michael Scherz bases in Talley-like rings made by the now defunct son of Williams Company. These on a custom pre-64 358 Carbine.

Another set of Michael Scherz' bases made for a post-64 416 Rem with Talley QD rings. These have a separate lug you cannot see that looks the rear base to the ring. He can do the same with a pre-64.
