I just shot the Partitions as an experiment and they shot extremely well. I've also had great luck with the 180s and my 300 Weatherby with medium to large Plains Game. I'm a TTSX "cultist" but given the erratic ammo availability since the marxist was elected, I want to have several options open and I don't think one can go wrong with either bullet. I'm willing to bet the 180TTSX will penetrate just as deep if not deeper than the heavier Partition.

I've been shooting the 200 gr partitions in my 30 Newton and see no reason to change. The last two elk have dropped right where they stood, this years elk slid about 100 yards down the hill. This pic doesn't show how steep it really was, but you can get the idea from the skid trail. I hit the cow twice from about 100 yards or so with both shots landing about 8 inches apart. She just kind of hunched up at the first shot and didn't move so I shot the second time, which turned out to be pretty unnecessary. She went down on the second shot and the last I saw of her she was sliding so fast I thought she was going to start passing the elk that were running.

Nice to see the old .300 H & H is still appreciated.. It was and is a fine caliber.. Haven't used my # 1 much since I bought it several years ago.. One 15" antelope with an old Rem. factory loaded 220 grain mushroom point.. One of the projects on tap for this winter when I get home is developing so good handloads for that rifle.. It is going to be my pick when my 11 # rifles get too much for me to carry around the mts... Hasn't happened yet, but it will I am sure...

Thanks! I have an original first model Newton rifle chambered in 30 Newton that I've been using the last couple years. This last year I found another first model Newton that somebody had rebarreled to 30-06 that I bought and had rebarreled to 256 Newton. I think that was the in the picture on the other thread. I carried the 256 a couple times, then I discovered that the ejector wasn't ejecting like it should so went back to the 30. The joys of using old equipment! The 256 is back up and running and will be the one I'll be using for wolf hunting this year. Here is a pic from last year with the 30 Newton.

YES! that is then one..!! Thanks for the photo..
Good luck with the .256 and the wolf hunt.. As soon as I get home to Wy. we will be chasing elk, coyotes, and keeping an eye out for a wolf.. In my area they are predators, and can be shot year around.. Not many, and we don't want any, but there are a few around.. Hope to see you with a photo of the .256 and a big old wolf very soon!!! Best of luck..

What more can be said & besides, the H&H has lots of cool
factor.

That load will kill most anything you can shoot with it.

jorgeI; I'd say that is/will be a dandy game load! Can't wait to get my 300H&H back from the smith so I can start load development! grin

Kman, not so long ago, did a penetration test with these two bullets and the results were 180 TSX @ 2900fps impact velocity, penetrated 26.5" total (9+" of bone and meat plus wet newspaper) with 99.9% weight retention. 200gr NPT @ 2825fps impact velocity, penetrated 21" total, same media, with 59.7% weight retention.

here's the link to the test he did if you have any interest in this kinda stuff: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...s/7219652/30_cal_bullet_test_cow_femurs_

Great! I figured the TSX would out penetrate. Still, that 200gr NP when the nose shears off causes a lot of internal damage.

I've got a box of 200grain Norma Oryx that MuleDeer recommended that I want to load up and see how they perform as back ups to the 200 grain Nosler Partitions. I just haven't been able to get excited about the Barnes offering. But for deer & elk I just think I'll stick to what I know best, C&C.

I hope you take that 300H&H to Africa with you & have great success!

jorgeI, will you be using the 300 H&H for lower 48 hunting and if so what animals. ?

Might unscrew my factory bbl. and put a 26 inch Hart on mine for the hell of it.

I've used it on a few head of game over the years, mostly deer & hogs but my most "appropriate" kill was a Scimitar Horned Oryx in Texas a couple of years ago.
