You guys use anything in particular? After getting thorns in my ass one too many times, I've decided to pony up and buy one.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Dan

I've bought a little lightweight foldup seat. Sits about 10" off of the ground. Not sure how well that's gonna work however I plan to try it this afternoon unless the wife's honey-do list takes longer than I anticipate laugh

Dan,

What type of country do you call in? Brush country, grassland, etc. Do you use a bipod or shooting sticks?

Generally brush country and I'll shoot off sticks or my BogPod.

In your country, where getting a few more inches above the ground cover might be very beneficial, using a stool and sticks like in Huntsman's pic might be the best.

Using a bipod with more limited vertical height than sticks, I've found a stool has me hunched over too much and I need to be seated at ground level. Sticks would solve this though, but I like the 'pod I use and for the country I call, this works best for me.

Snow is my main reason for using a butt-pad and I've mostly used a Crazy Creek chair and a basic Gorilla Treestand seat cushion. The treestand seat cushion gets the most use because it's the easiest to pack and is quiet.

You might do some thinking about what you use for a rifle rest and how you normally setup and go with what is gonna work best in most situations. And also what you are willing to lug along to a stand.

Crazy Creek fabric chair.

Keeps your butt dry, cactus proof, comfortable, easy on the back and provides a stable shooting position off of sticks or a tall bipod.

I have both of predator quests seat one with the back and the flat inflatable one, both work great. I like milch stool, easy to carry and fast set up.

I thought I'd actually use the search function before asking this question, found this thread. I'm glad I did.

After some digging, I discovered that the ground seat that Predator Quest sells is actually made by Sportsman's Outdoor Products
SOP Homepage
They sell the same chair but call it the Beard Buster EZ chair and list it only in the turkey hunting section..........probably out of courtesy to Predatorquest.

A little more shopping brought me to Amazon, where the Beard Buster ships free in 2 days (via Prime) for $44.
SCORE!

Just thought I'd bump the thread and share the savings if anyone's interested. I almost went with the Crazycreek Longback, but this seat from SOP looks more comfortable and still has a longer than normal back support. I'll report back after using it for a while.

That's the style I always use. Bought one from Gander Mtn, and another from Cabelas. I think Gander called them stadium seats or some such.

One tip, if the stays are made of plastic, they will break. Better to get flat aluminum pieces and replace them ASAP.

I got on this ground seat kick while house-bound with my 2yr old, and watching an older Randy Anderson video where he was modeling a Primos "Bark-a-Lounger." It was nothing more than a stadium seat, but looked larger (Randy fit in it), and had ample cushioning. I assumed it was still on the market, but it's not.

I like the stadium seat concept, but most I've tried are borderline too narrow and hit the middle of my back rather coming up a little higher where they could actually provide some support. Hopefully this one is a keeper.

I've used several and to date the most comfortable is Alps outdoors wide turkey chair. Awesome chair. Perfect height for tall Harris bipod.

I considered that one, but didn't think it would work on hillsides, deep snow, or soft muddy spring ground. For flat, dry ground it looks like a winner though, and I still might buy one for leisurely squirrel shooting. smile

I went through several of the bark-o-loungers and finally wore out the last one early this season so I ordered the predator quest/SOP seat and so far it's working just as well for me as did the bark -o's. Where I sit/hunt, extra height of a folding chair is a no-no. Already feel like I stick out like a sore thumb do to lack of cover. Having the back rest to lean against sure helps me both in staying comfortable and helps me shoot better. SO far, seems to be worth the money.

I use one of these padded ones. I've had it and used it for at least a decade. I always put the black side down because that's where all the cactus are. My back goes against a fence post.

Used various ground seats over the years and when I bought a H. S. Strut SUV turkey vest for turkey hunting I abandoned the portable ground seats.

The vest has a drop down seat or can be detached and the roomy rear game pouch stores clothing for layering.
