Does ruger chamber the 35 whelen Yep. It's one of the guns I let get away. Mine had sights and a McMillan stock. For some stupid reason, I sold it.

Have one in Rem 700 CDL. No issues. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Find a used rifle of your preferred action and finish in long action standard boltface and you're a simple barrel job away. You'll end up with a better barrel and the exact rifle you wanted.

Always thought a BLR long action rebore would make a sick Whelen... I think that 1895 that Texaschase was selling in the classifieds is a perfect Whelen rebore. I have one like it in 35 Whelen, and it may be the last rifle I'd part with.

You can have one in any action you want as long as its an '06 or .270 type of thing to start with. Send the gun of your choice to JES and he'll make it into an accurate 35 Whelen for $250.

What is JES? I've got a 700 in .25-06 that I'd be interested in having this done to. Thanks! You can have one in any action you want as long as its an '06 or .270 type of thing to start with. Send the gun of your choice to JES and he'll make it into an accurate 35 Whelen for $250.

I have tried everything the best group we can get with the 7600 is a 6 inch group at 50 yards with 200gr hornady and vargat powder I had a 760 35 whelen and it would shoot a 2inch group at 100 . I have a few other 7600 and they shoot great. Does ruger chamber the 35 whelen Ever consider a new barrel for that thing? Douglas and Hart make them for the 760/7600.

I personally think the BLRs in .358 that I've had, were the perfect .35-caliber repeater packages....short lever throw, shorter action, and can nip at the heals of any (non-magnum) 35. The Whelen is awesome. I just differ in theory on packages vs recoil and efficiency. 18-20" bbls even out the short 35 vs the longer 35. A rebore/reline might be a good option for getting whichever you want in whatever you want, w/o breaking the bank. They usually shoot better than the original, IME. I'd like to pick up another BLR in .358. I'd shoot anything in NA to 250+, just fine.

Also in 9.3x62:
Tikka Zastava Sauer Mauser Blaser Anschutz 1780
And ruger was chambering it until very recently. There is a lot more factory ammunition options, too. 9.3x62 definitely gies you more cxp4 options currently. Unfortunately most rifle and ammunition manufacturers seem to have decided the Whelen is just a woods cartridge - and hence the 1:16 twists and 200 gr soft points. Obviously, it is potentially a whole lot more than that and proven effective on buffalo. Steyr SBS also. Been one on gunbroker with a leupy 1.5-5 for 3 months now. $1200ish. I would love to have that gun.
