Savage 220 16 Gauge Single Shot Shotgun plain barrel with bead.

First center fire rifle was a synthetic M700 ADL in .243 Win with Weaver V9.

Dad gave me his old 94 Winchester, 30 WCF. It was January 1968. Then he left us to live elsewhere. (There's a country song in that!). Still have it. One of the grand kids will get it!

Yeah. I kept the rifle for 10 years. A 1" Pachmyer Decelerator pad was a huge improvement. Eventually picked up an NEF in .223 to practice with. That was the saving grace.

A Winchester model 94 .30-30 that Dad bought for me the day I was born in 1960.

Had to wait a couple years before I got to use it though. I still have it and still hunt it every once in a while.

1970's Remington 700 ADL .30-06. It is my Dad's and I still hunt with it as he does not hunt with a rifle. My favorite rifle, killed my first Whitetail, Pronghorn and Mule Deer with it. I hope to use it to kill my first Elk when I draw.

First one of "my own" a Remington 700 SPS Stainless 7mm Rem Mag that is now nestled in a CDL take off stock.

My first deer rifles were a Remington 660 in 6mm and a Ruger 44 International, they were gifts from my Father.

My first self-purchased deer rifle was a sporterized Venezuelan FN Mauser in 7x57 for which I paid $37.50. The action is currently in use as the basis for a rebarreled and restocked rifle.

I killed my first deer with a single shot 410 slug, because I wasn't old enough to handle much recoil, but to answer your question, my first "deer rifle" was a Remington 742 Carbine 30-06. It still occupies a spot in my safe after all these years.

Age 16, I purchased a Number 4 mk 1 303 british, with stock cut down. made by longbranch . Paid $14.95 at Eatons mailorder. A lot different atmosphere than today. With dominion 180 gr roundnose I could shoot 1 1/2 inch groups consistently with the battle sights. Got my first deer with it and several others. Stupidly sold it when I got my pre 64 featherweight in 270, which I still have on based on Jack Oconnors readings. Should have kept it too.

Knight "Wolverine" muzzle-loader. I think I shot my first five or six with that thing before using any other weapon system to hunt deer.

Started with a 742 in 6mm Rem, then moved to a 336 in 30-30, and on to a 7400 in 30-06. Converted to bolt guns ever since.
