My 223AI is on a Ruger MKII and feeds fine with no mods.

I have a .223 AI but it uses the AI mags. I was wanting to do one with a BDL set up.

I have had two different gunsmiths tell me they have never been satisfied with how they fed. Both of these smiths are well known here at 24hr.

I thought I read once about a mag mod for the 223 AI with an internal mag design.

Guess I was mistaken

Factory ADL and BDL is same/same as far as feeding. Same follower. Same spring. Same feed lips on box. Only difference is that ADL box is longer and held to the action with a screw. I'm using factory 223 follower and springs on mine.

If you use the google 24-hr search tool, you'll find a lot of info about mag mods for 223AI. But the mod is to the length of the mag to be able to load longer COL's. Not to the feedlips or spring. Any 700 may meed minor tweeks to spring or lips to feed better. Most don't.

I did the length mod on a 25-204 and a 223AI. I posted a pic of it I think it was in the 25-204 thread.

ETA: I guess I deleted those pics on my photobucket account. I can take more if that's the mod you're referring to.

Thanks for that explanation. I wasn't sure what exactly the mod was, just seen some threads and people would comment about mag mod. So I wasn't sure what that entailed. Doesn't sound like it would be something I would need with this rifle as I will be shooting short bullets.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Buster,

I think the thread you may have been thinking of is this one. It more or less covers all things feeding/700 and is worth the time to read. AI or not.

My son's .223 AI fed like schit. So I Started at the f--king start but I think I drank too much before I started because it still fed like schit.

After that I sent it to my smith and now it feeds well. But I doubt I'll build another AI regardless.

I've a 223AI that feeds like chit. I think a big help would be a chamfering of the chamber mouth. My smith ,GAP, didn't want to do it.
I've been using it as is but intend to get it fixed at some point.
Floor plate/follower tweaks didn't help much.

I've spoke to quite a few well known smiths and it is a recognized issue. Darrel Holland has his own version to to get by.

It is what it is. If yours feeds good great.

I have a 22-250

My turn is coming up at smiths and all parts are already there
So I'll just use the .223 action an barrel
I do love my 22-250 too

I also have a 22-243 and will be building a 22x47 Lapua this year too.

22-204 would be a good alternative to the 223AI. I love the 25-204 (aka Reeder's 257 Raptor) and haven't had any feeding problems. Mickey Coleman put that one together for me with a borrowed reamer.

Heck, you can remember 36-24-36 well enough, can't you?
