I prefer the shorty, but sometimes vegetation etc. mandates the taller, and sometimes they are not tall enough. I am not as dependent on bipods as much as I used to be.

6-9" swivel with (pod-loc) when shooting from a bench, 9-13" swivel (pod-loc) on the rifle, sticks at the ready when necessary(more often than not- i.e. in sage or CRP).

I normally also carry a set of shooting sticks of some sort with me. for shooting over sage brush if I need to. I also have a modified shorter set of shooting sticks I use under the rear of the stock, so 2 sets of sticks under the stock. its kinda hokey but I can hit a 12" plate at 600 yards set up this way. for shots 300 yard and less just one set of sticks works great for me on coyote size targets. if its past that the rear set of sticks comes out and extends my range further yet. its not as good as a prone shot off the harris but it works.

http://www.harrisbipods.com/HB25CS.htmlmost of my elk were shot from a sitting position with this bi-pod at over 100 yard but under 250 yards, or at very close range shooting off hand (usually under 60 yards)

Hunting on the west side of wa I use a 6 to 9 Harris but on the east side in the tall grass the taller the better . That said I love my atlas and am working to fit all my rifles with synthetic stocks with picitany rails for the quick release mount

I use both Harris 6-9's and 9-13's, depending on the vegetation in the terrain I hunt. I prefer the BRM models, with the notched legs and add a KMW PODLOC to remove cant. ^^^This exactly. I've been thinking about trying out an Atlas bipod on my 338 Lapua as it's an extremely heavy rifle...

If you shoot out the window of the truck, the folded up 9-13 swivel can do number on your thumb.

Harris 9-13, leg notch, swivel, with pod lock, but keep set of shooting sticks in pack for sitting, kneeling or standing shots.

6-9 inch Atlas bipod. These although pricey are amazing and quick detachable. I think B&T calls it 4.75-9" http://www.accu-shot.com/Atlas_Bipods.phpI have one, and it has advantages. But I would still buy a number of Harris Engineering Bipod Rotating Black Leg Notch 9"-13" SLM................for every one Atlas I buy. The #1 reason is price $225 to $280 for the Atlas. $113 for the Harris of my dreams. KMW Pod-Loc $24.99 Brownells is a great accessory for the Harris. Together I am only $138 into each Harris set up on each new rifle.

Another vote for the 12-25" Harris swivel. A friend had one of those Primos shooting stick things with when he was out hunting this year. Pain in the ass to carry around, but very steady when set up. The biggest thing for me is that the rest is steady and extremely quick to deploy. The Harris fits these requirements and works in the vasst majority of situations that I've run into. If I'm hunting, there's a 25S on my rifle.
