Built to be a stopping pistol, this 480 pistol has it all: 4" ported barrel, full Wolverine conversion including 7 moon clips, Bowen Rough Country Express rear sight, XS Big Dot tritium front sight, Crimson Trace laser grip as well as the stock grip. Also comes with Ruger rings.

Action has been slicked up nicely, the trigger breaks like glass, and the laser red dot sits on top of the XS front and prints 410 grain hard-cast bullets at 1140 fps to that location. Not a monster to shoot but offers LOTS of stopping power. Will include quite a bit of new brass (need to check on how many exactly but several hundred).

After receiving this pistol I have put about 50 rounds through it to finalize the sight picture I wanted but it's essentially new.

Will sell and ship from my FFL to your FFL for $1700. The ONLY two trades I would consider are for an old Parker shotgun or for high-quality optics of equal value.

Thursday morning. Still interested in either a Parker shotgun or high-end optics in trade.

I was hoping someone else would ask this question but no luck. What are the moonclips for? It's .475 caliber - right? Can't think offhand of a rimless .475 cartridge. Some obscure chambering?

The Ruger 480 is not a rimless cartridge. Wild West Guns' reasoning behind using moon clips is that it enables faster reloading by holding the six new cartridges together - same function as a speed loader. They drop right into the cylinder held in alignment by the clip. The back of the cylinder is rebated slightly to accommodate the clips - part of the Wolverine conversion. Can be shot just as well without them too.

Thanks Travis,

Having owned two 454's and a 500 S&W and multiple 44 magnums I have come to believe that the Ruger 480 (or the 475 Linebaugh loaded down just a little) is the best compromise when it comes to a shootable stopping pistol. Others may well disagree but that's my opinion.

As I have said before, there's nothing I want to achieve with a stopping pistol that a 410 grain hard-cast bullet traveling a bit over 1100 fps cannot do. I could load the 480 hotter than that, but to have a shootable load that will have an entry hole and an exit hole in just about anything that walks the planet it's good enough for me. If I need any more KO then I'll go to a long gun with a big hole in the barrel.

John,

If one were so inclined, I have heard the Ruger SRH in .480 can be converted to .475 Linebaugh. There's a fellow over on accuratereloading.com who recently purchased one convereted. Talk about a MAJOR stopping hand cannon! If I had the extra scratch, I would love to pick this up!

Hamilton Bowen is doing a big-bore 475 Linebaugh conversion on another SRH for me right now.
