Who did you have finish, bed, and paint the stock? They only come unfinished, and D'Arcy referred me to a guy who wanted $2,700! They don't have bolt notches cut either.

I do them myself.

But a good bedding job is probably $150, putting on the pad is about $60, installing sling swivel studs is $50, paint is about $150. I don't know what someone would charge to cut the ejection port and bolt notch.

You might call McMillan, and see what they charge.

It's all pretty easy except for cutting the bolt notch. I'll tell you this though...it ain't a $2,700 job on any planet.

The bolt notch is no trick. Inletting black, a dremel, and patience.

McMillan will finish it for not a lot of money, as I recall about $100.

Yeppers. Throw in the cost of the stock and you are only at 21% of the price of a Legend. laugh

I also did it myself. If you're half way handy it's not too bad, just takes some time. The bolt notch wasn't that hard, the pillars took a bit of time, but it's all well worth it...it's a great stock.

I am doing one right now mostly on my own but sending to McMillan for the swivel studs (not something I want to mess up on the EDGE fill) and out to the smith for pillars.

But, I am feeling optimistic about my paint and port cutting quality, so...

I'll bid your job for a cool $1,500 grin

I can certainly do the bedding, but I'm not willing to tackle LOP or the bolt notch on an expensive stock like that. I'll see if McMillan will do it; D'Arcy said that they don't offer that service anymore.

He referred me to Mark Penrod and Gene Simillion...that's when I knew I was in trouble. Simillion wanted $2,750 to finish the stock, and that's AFTER you're in $480 for the stock itself. I'll settle for a plain McMillan long before I pay anywhere close to that.

That Legend stock does feel nice though...

To me they are like any glass stock; they're a handle. Nonetheless, if someone sees fitting and finishing one as being woth 2700 dollars, that's what it's worth; to them. GD

Chris,

Some other places you might check are Chad Dixon at Long Rifles Inc and Alex Sitman at Master Class.

You could mail that to Holland & Holland in London for less than $2750.
