I've been wanting a super .30 since 1993(born in 73). Finally grabbed one today. It's a working stiffs rifle, but holy cow!!! Looking for ideas to spruce it up. Load suggestions, any input, really. 700 stocks or bottom metal, etc. Thanks a ton. rick35

My first 300 H&H was a 721. I replaced the original stock with a 700 classic take off stock and 700 bottom metal. I remember having to shorten the 721 magazine about 3/16 of an inch to fit the magazine well depth and had to open up the stock slightly for the 721 safety and the barrel channel for the dog knot. It was an extremely accurate rifle and now resides with one of my best friends. He bought it when I got my left handed 300 H&H.

Congrats on a great rile/caliber. Although I'm a model 70 fan a good friend has the same rifle you do and that things always shoots tiny groups with H4831 and 200 grain partitions. My model 70 favors RL22 and 180 TTSX's. Enjoy!

Mart is right about opening up a 700 stock for the 721 tang... but many prefer to cut a small slot in the 721 tang and use a 700 safety... and usually a 700 trigger.

Not all 721s have the dognut, too.

There are a lot of bolt shroud options, as well as firing pin mods like a Tubbs Speed lock kit...

That's what I shoot the most of in both a pre-64 M70 and a No. 1...

Nothing like a Remington 700xcr.

after fiddling with the rifle for the evening, i think it needs sling swivel studs, a better scope, and a new pad. some body before me one hand carried the rifle enough to wear off the blue on the front 3rd off of the floor plate without a sling. that being the case, i feel like i should leave it as is. i need to scrub the heck out of it. it was a pawn shop find, so it has probably sat dirty for a long, long time. 180 or 200 partitions sound like a great way to start... and finish for a freezer full:). thanks again guys, rick35

my step-dad recently gave me a 700 adl carbine 30-06. now its almost hard to justify my j-lock bdl 270. it has the big horn on the floorplate, nice rifle, but it is pretty much out of work now.

Clean it and then I'd shoot it before I do anything.
