I have a savage 24vs 357 maximum over a 3in 20 ga in stainless with wood stock. it is in fairly good shape. I have never seen another one in stainless or 357 max. anyone know what it might be worth? I dont shoot it and might have some interest locally. thanks Chris

They are worth a LOT. They are extremely rare having only been produced for a year or 2 at most, and a highly prized collectible. There was the 24VS that you have and a 24CS, same thing but in 22 rimfire over 20, also stainless. It's worth even more if you have the matching original pistol grip that came with it.
What you need to do is do a search on Gunbroker for completed (sold)items. IIRC correctly, the last pristine one I saw sold on Gunbroker went for about 1200 dollars. And you most certainly want to auction it where the world can see it if you sell it, not sell it outright to someone.
This pic is of my original pistol grip and stainless attaching screw as shown in the Savage24.com picture gallery.

Just to clarify, there AREN'T ANY STAINLESS Savage 24s!
The 24CS and 24VS, cataloged in 1983, had a stain nickel finish. It may look like stainless and it is likely to be more rust resistant than blued CM, but it isn't stainless.
These two combination guns can be found in the center section of the 1983 catalog. I would cite a page number if the pages were numbered, but they aren't, so I can't.
The 24CS and 24VS are likely to be the least common style of 24, as they were only cataloged in 1983 and that was the time when Savage was nearly bankrupt. If a 24V in 357 over 20 in excellent condition is a $600 to $750 unit in today's market, a 24VS is likely to be in the $800 to $1,100 range. Maybe more if you find the right buyer. I don't recall ever having seen either of these Savages.
GPC used to sell the pistol grips. I have, or had, one around somewhere. Might have burned it in the wood stove at the old house. Hate to think of the number of good, but not excellent, Savage 99 stocks that went into the stove.
But sorry, had to remove the link as my signon has to be in effect to show it.
Just do a 'completed items' search on Gunbroker(you have to sign on to do that search) and search for 'Savage 24 357'.

To my estimation, only 3 people were bidding STUPID money.
Cool gun.

Here is another, and it's not a VS, a 24V with standard walnut furniture. 357 Maximums sell for a lot more that 357 Magnums in any persuasion in a Savage 24 I've found.
