When my family goes out of town we put extra things in the safe in case someone breaks in.... One thing we put in the safe is all of the keys around the house... i.e. car keys for the vehicles at the house, etc....

What things do you stash (if you do not mind sharing)... I figured some of you have some good ideas on this that I have not thought of....

I do the same thing. No reason to offer my vehicles to a cretin who breaks into my home.

I just tell the retired in country VN Marine Sgt. vet that lives at the end of my lane that I am going to be gone and when I will be coming back. Leave the keys in the trucks and don't worry about nothing

When I leave for more than a day or two, I take the guns to a buddy's house. Don't really have much else worth stealing really. The guns go because we'll have a young man house sitting and I'm just not willing to take the chance on something bad happening. I trust him with everything else, and I would really be inclined to trust him with the guns, but the law would see it differently if something silly happened. And we let him have friends over and I don't know them quite as well.

Just whatever guns are out--everything else that I worry about already lives in the safe.

Just like Ben, except that two or three musical instruments also need to be stowed.

My safe is already full of guns no room for anything except an envelope or two. Actually most anything of value is already in there. Never thought about putting my truck keys in there (we usually use the wife's car to travel.)

All good suggestions...

another is your computer or the HD out of it... Laptops we do not take go in there and all backup files as well...

I have also been know to move files off of the desktop cpmouter before onto a Thumb drive and put the dirve in the safe... that was the files are not on computer that is not room in the safe for..

Sure, put up guns that had leaning in corner between outings, put away finance stuff, etc. But actually spend more effort "staging" the house to remain looking "lived in" - few lamps on discretely in side rooms, move car in driveway, mail held, grass cut, etc.

Aside from the guns and a few heirlooms, we put the external hard drive and a bunch of CDs that have our family pictures on them. If we're not taking my wife's camera we'll put that in there as well.

Very good thread, Sako. It might spark ideas some of us never thought about. Kudos.

We keep all our vital papers and heirloom jewelry in the safe anyway. During trips I add the other car keys, the thumbdrive with my financials, and the house guns. I hadn't thought of storing the backup harddrive, but may do so next time.
