Has anybody had one of these dogs? I'm looking into buying one. Any information I should know about?

I have never owned any but when I was a young kid my neighbor always had at least three beagles and three Blue Ticks. He lived for hunting rabbits and raccoons. So I hunted with him often.
The Downside: What you need to know is they are a very high maintenance breed. They need to be run and run hard often. They are very vocal also so if you have neighbors you might want to think about it. They are runners so if one gets loose you are going to have a fun time chasing after/finding it. I might be wrong about this but from what I remember as a kid they don't mix well with cats or other small type pet animals.
The Up Side: They are a very high energy semi-muscular dog. They will run thru ANYTHING no really they will run thru anything and everything. They have great noses and their drive is unstoppable. If I were looking to run cats, coons, or bear it would be the breed I would look at first.

Yep, a Hound by any other name etc etc.
My dad had em. Great Hounds but they are indeed Hounds so know what you're getting yourself into.
Google Del Cameron, maybe even pick up one of his books. His BT's are as good as it gets.

Maybe you can find a copy on one of the used book sites. (I buy almost all my books from them.) If you really want to read it and can't find one I'll loan you mine. Luck

I had one as a kid. Heck of a coon hound, but dumb as a box of rocks. His name was dude. He was smart enough, that if we lost him at night, I would leave my coat near where we lost him, he would be sleeping on it when I came back in the morning. Chased a coon across the highway and a truck killed them both. Coon was still in good shape. IIRC, got about 35 bucks for it's pelt.
Not a house pet. Straight hunting dog.
