I am looking seriously at one of these. It's the 2014 model, range certified Mark V ultra lightweight in .257 Wby. 26" fluted barrel, 6.75lbs on paper. I'd like opinions on the barrel, stock, finish, etc. from anyone with experience with them. If I get one I thought about sending it back in Weatherby to get a muzzle brake installed. One comes on the .300 Wby so I would think it's possible on this barrel as well.

I am a lefty, but so used to shooting right handed guns I;m not sure I would get a left handed version. A lefty stock on a right handed action would be perfect for me. Is this possible?

why would you even want a muzzle brake on a 257 wby?

Two reasons: cut down on recoil (even though it shouldn't be too bad in .257) and the threaded barrel allows use of a suppressor.

Why would you want a muzzle brake or a suppressor.

Recoil does not even get noticeable on Wby magnums until you hit 160gr 7mm level at maximum velocities. Anything less is a cake walk.

Recoil is a personal thing, everyone's limit is different.

In its factory form the .257 is going to be next to impossible to suppress, and I'd imagine the silencer would mess with the harmonics of your barrel negating the SUBMOA RC guarantee.

I think I'd give a call to the Weatherby Custom shop and see if they had any lefty actions lying around, and just have it done as a left handed rifle from the get go. Tell them you also want the SUBMOA RC guarantee also.

After looking into it further, the suppressor is out. I would still consider the muzzle brake as I am not a huge fan of recoil!

There just really isn't much recoil to a .257 Wby. even in the lightweight configuration. About like a .270 Winchester in a standard weight sporter. With a muzzle brake the blast is going to be more bothersome then the perception of recoil.

I would agree about the recoil. It's not too bad out of the UL. It seems to recoil a smidgion less then my UL in 25/06.

Same money. Waaay better mousetrap. And has the backasswards handle.... JMO

25-06 270 or 280 would do what the Roy does in a gun weighing 5.5#....

I have a UL in .30-06 and it kicks the heck out of me. I'm a little bit of a sissy, but still.

you need a good .257 Roberts, or I guess if you must then a 25-06. I have had two Weatherby Synthetic stocked rifles and they were OK. I have 3 Kimbers and like them a lot better.
