Question for the Tundra owners,
Looked at the new Tundra today and found that the rear ratio is 4.30 and that is the only option listed.
This truck is a extended cab 4x4, 5.7, auto.
What is the real world gas mileage to be expected?
The listed mileage is 13 city and 17 hwy, is that realistic?
Thanks

Its realistic if you drive like a grandma. Most likely you'll be in the 12-15 mpg range

My wife has that engine in her suv and she seems to get about 12-13. Tons of power but fuel efficient it ain't

Considering its a 5,600# 4wd truck with 381 HP and over 400 ft lb's of torque, it does not get bad gas mileage....at least IMO. In town mileage on mine is between 12 and 14 but on the open road I can do a tad better than the EPA sticker says. For me the key is to keep the rpm's under 1750.

Mine turns 2,000 rpm at 75 mph, and I have to have a pretty stiff headwind or a lot of up and down to drop below the low 17 mpg range.

I've owned Tundra's since they first came on the scene.. My present one is about 2 years old and has 70,000 miles on it.. When towing my 23 foot trailer loaded I get about 10.5/gal.. If I am just driving, I would say my average mileage is around 17-18.. I have gotten as high as 22, but the wind was pushing me..
At one time or another I've owned pickups by all the makers but Dodge... We will buy another soon.. It will be a Tundra.. Haven't seen anything Chev. or Ford or Dodge puts out that would make me change..

I think the Tundra's of the last 3-4 years are getting slightly better mileage than my 07. On the highway, with the cruise set at 71-72 I get in the mid 16's to the low 17's. Used to do a bit better before I put the current tires on it, they're a fairly aggressive all terrain design.

Best mileage my '07 4.7 4wd has seen is 20.1 for a 1000 mile round trip to Bend, Or.
Overall I average around 18.5 on the road; 15 in town. I love the Tundra series but wish Toyota had really tried to squeeze the mpgs out of them, shame.
I've had four Tundras and as many T100s.

Granted it was smaller and a v6, but at least the T100 4wd ext cab would deliver a solid 21mpg on the road.

This is true, it takes real effort to coax out 19-20 mpg with a 4wd ex-cab. In serious hills and wind, forget it.

Add a camper (and lund boat) like mine? 11 mpg.

broomd, how does your Tundra haul that Lance??? I have a 5.7 with and extra cab..But what I read, it didn't seem like I could carry a camper on it.. So we have used a travel trailer.. I would like a camper for some trips, and as you said for towing a boat..

Sounds like you have the 4.30 rear gearing as well. My wife and I took a 120 mile round trip Saturday and averaged 20.7. Never got over 62mph or so as it was a 2 lane rural road. The on board computer was pretty close as it said I averaged 20.4.

On line research shows that a 4.30 is the rear for a 4x4 with tow and with the 6 speed trans, with double overdrive, the mileage will be ok you don't get too heavy on throttle.
I will be towing a 26ft travel trailer some, so it should serve well.

Thanks for the response and info.

Hauls it just fine, Wyo.

That is Lances 805 model, it is specifically built for the titan and tundra series at about 1300 pounds. It isn't full of amenities, but is tall enough for my 6'6'' self. Most guys want everything in these campers and therefore the 805 series weren't that popular except for guys that wanted them for the Tundra/Titans.
I bought this 2009 one spankin new in Yakima in 2011 right at $8K.

I added ride rite bags, and ten plies to the Toy. Runs out fine pulling a 17' Lund. I haul it across the states to Northwest Ontario every Summer.
As I said though, I fight for every one of those 11 mpg with the camper/boat behind me.

Just keep an eye on the computer, and easy does it.
Expect between 10 and maybe 12 if you are very lucky; wind is a huge factor.

I have an 11 with the 5.7 4x4, trd with tow package (4.3 re). calendar year 2013 was 16.6ish mix of rural town, highway and off road with 4x4 driving in winter and off road. I don't drive it like I stole it (most of the time) and it does fine between fill ups.

When I bought my 11 tundra it was the most American made truck of the year based on my research at the time. It drives well, does well off roading, gets better mileage than my 04 2500hd and has significantly more power.

I won't buy another chevy either, but would buy a ford if I liked it enough.
