Looking for information from anyone that has hunted birds around Baker, Mt.
I would like to know if it is loaded with cactus and if you encountered many rattlesnakes?
How about porcupines?
Thanks!

Cactus is around but not loaded. There are rattlesnakes around but depending on when you come you won't have a problem. There are porcupines around.

I'll add that the wooded hills around Baker and Ekelaka have the highest density of porcupines I've ever encountered. At least that was my experience back in 2009 and 2010. But if you're sticking to hunting upland birds in the grass/cropland, there should be a lower chance of running into porcupines.

Reba: I have Hunted around Baker, Montana (mostly south of) and have killed Sharptails, Pheasants and Wild Turkey. I have taken these birds as an adjunct to my Antelope, Coyote and Mule Deer forays. The Porcupines do stand out down that a way and they get "cropped off" pretty well by ranchers, locals and Varminters. Over the last 45 years Hunting over that a way I have killed about 20 Rattlesnakes - in maybe 450 days afield thereabouts. And there are cactus thereabouts - I have never Hunted Arizona or anywhere that is loaded with cactus but if you are going to Hunt birds with your dogs then I would have them protected from cactus and take along some liquid skunk odor remover! Stores are few and far between out that a way. Best of luck on your Hunt and keep your eyes open for petrified wood and for arrowheads. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
