My Kid has a Rifle simular to that.Fugly looking but shoots light out!!! grin

They figured out Tubb might have been onto something. Were some others before Tubb that did the chasis type rifles.

I can understand folks wanting a gun to look like the old ones. Just like folks love old cars too. But I'll be danged, I could really give a flip less about looks, I just want it to be as accurate as it can be and reliable as heck. I"ve been known to rasp on wood stocks and then not like it and add bondo and rasp that until on a match rifle it fit right.

I'd do the same on a hutning gun too. Its a tool, to me, no more no less.

Wasn't it a a Rem catalog a few years back that had a beautiful cover pic of a guy shooting a M70?

That must have been the same editor who let Remington claim their M798 was a "double square bridge"

Whoever wrote that is probably a staff writer for Intermedia now.

Just downloaded and read the article....the above comment came back to me when I saw the pic of the elk. I guess I'd be okay with the POA depending on the range and how the wind's blowing...

I've been stretching the limits of rifles, cartridges and bullets, for nearly all my life and richly enjoyed John's article. As usual it's not full of a bunch of fluff but plain and simple common sense.

My avatar name is LDHunter which is Long Distance Hunter and although I've been at it a lifetime, almost all my shots at medium to big game are inside of 300yds.

Although I'd love to brag that I've taken maybe an antelope at a cool thousand yards (bucket list item), the hunter in me always wants to sneak in closer... LOL

Yet another great article John... Thanks...

Bob

That was a fun article...I enjoyed that! wink

Mawhinney's gear made me chuckle smile A "stock" Ruger M77 7 Rem Mag,bedded, floated, with factory ammo that he says groups well.Interesting that the current technology he embraces is a great scope.

I think we know at least two of those guys on here. wink

Savuti, It specifically says "Hathcock" at the bottom of column 2 page 30 and in the caption under the photo on the same page. I don't know where you got the "Hancock" from but IT IS NOT in this article.-Muddy
