I have a Kahles 2-7X36 I'm about to put on my new Kimber Montana in 7mm-08. The list below are the only light weight options I can think of. have I missed any better choices.
Leupold fixed 4X
Leupold fixed 6x
Leupold VX3 2.5-8
Swaro Z3 3X9X36
I also have a USA Divari 3X9X36 on another rifle but I am loath to pull it off as I don't see that much improvement over the Kahles I am considering mounting.
Basically just wondering if there is some choice I missed.

Leupold VX2 2-7x. Lighter than the 2.5-8x. The 2-7, 4x, and 6x36 are my favorites if counting oz's. I usually go with the 6x42 as it's only a couple of oz's more. None of those are bad choices (pending power you're comfortable with).

Leupold VX2 2-7x. Lighter than the 2.5-8x. Yea, It's 2 OZ lighter than the Kahles I am mounting and it comes with CDS as an option. I still think the Kahles will have better glass. What do you think?

I would defiantly go with the Kahles if I already had it. If not I like the Swarovski z3 Have you had personal experience with the Z3? I was strongly considering getting one but researching them, I found numerous complaints of them loosing zero.

Get something with the size you want, low weight, and good eye relief characteristics.
Yesterday I was shooting at 300 yards using a little Leupold 1.5-4x20 set to 4x, which actually gives 3.9x. I shot four, three shot groups for an average of 0.43 MOA. Yes, 0.43, that's not a typo. The worst group was 0.6 MOA.
It doesn't take nearly as much glass as I used to think to get the job done.

The Kahles is the best scope you list if it will fit. It's ocular may be larger than the others.
The Swaro.3-9 is no better than a Leupold except it's name. It costs way too much otherwise.
If it's not too small the Leupold 3-9 Compact was pretty good today when I shot it on a rifle where it's about the only one that will fit using that mount and bolt clearance. It's 9.4 oz.
I could see bullet holes at 100 & 200 yds.

I have some mounts ordered so I'll see soon how the Kahles fits. If nothing else I have a pristine M8 4X but I wanted something really nice on this rifle.

Hi there, randy I did the z3 on my Montana it's 12 Oz, balances very well on my 308, that's my choice, there r many to choice from!

Have two Swarovski PH 6x42s. They weigh in at 12 oz. They're tough to find but I love them as a lightweight scope. Sold my FX3 6x42s to go with the PHs.

I did dial it quit a bit before selling it to get the z5. Only reason I sold it was to get the 5-25. I did like the reticle in the z3 better as it was heavier. As to the comparison to the leaupold, I have never looked through a leaupold that was close to a Swarovski. Maybe just my eyes but the Swarovski is way above the leaupold.

If it's about weight I'd go with a 6x36 with the ballistic dot reticle. That will give you sighting to 500 yards without having to resort to weightier setups.
Personally I went with the 6x42 ballistic dot pled and have been hugely impressed.

The Leopold 3x (actually around 3.4)and the 1.5x5.

IIRC, part of the reason you were getting this rifle was for the kids and wife to use. In my limited experience with my boys, the less to fiddle with the better. Therefore, I'd be looking hard at a fixed power scope, with my suggestion being a 6X of whatever make/model you prefer.

The Leupold 6X36 at 10 0z in talley LW extra lows woyld be hard to beat.

Leupold 2.5 is the lightest.
The Leupold 4x rimfire is next, and can be used just fine for a centerfire.

Those 3x's look just right on those. Thought about an M1 on one, see you did it. How far out have you shot that rig? I have never owned the 2.5x, but like my only 3x a lot.
