This is the bull crap that gets encouraged by the likes of Center for Biological Diversity. This is the lunacy that people subscribe to and it becomes their "religion".

It's this agenda that's partly behind the Federal Government's efforts to drive cattle ranchers off the land.

To add to it, there is a renewed interest in diminishing the methane gas coming from cattle. Methane is a key component of "climate change" and we must minimize its existence. The aspect of a "gas tax" is re-surfacing and their "research" states that the methane from one cow annually is the equivalent to burning 235 gallons of gasoline.

I appreciate the levity, but people, these idiots are serious and they have people in authority to proceed with some of these crackpot agendas!

heard this morning that green house gas emissions from 2000-2010 are more than the 3 prior decades combined

In other words, it ain't just America.

Correct. But we must pay for our former transgressions and we are responsible the other countries contributing to greenhouse gases. Why? Because we demand material goods that need raw materials and factories to make them and then transport them.

In the end, the US is to blame - always. Don't forget it!

The dumbschitz have it backwards, as usual. If animals dirty the air, and plants clean the air, what we need is to eat MORE animals and FEWER plants. Yet these dipwads want us to avoid meat and eat vegetables.

The climate would be vastly improved if they themselves stopped eating - and breathing.

price the meat out beyond our ability to afford it.

Not to worry. They will have a soy based replacement that will be more affordably priced.

DakotaDeer. good point. The buffalo herds were in the millions so global warming must have been out of control. Where are there statistics on that.

US cattle herd is at a 61 year low - 88M head. Maybe we can save the planet?

Luckily the food source for our herds of beef cattle is a renewable resource.

Think of a cow as the modern day buffalo. Big herbivores both but cows are obviously easier to contain/handle and are more 'efficient' than buff.

We raise them from birth. 'Produce' all the of the feed they consume from mid December to about May.
All 'organic' feed that we put up ourselves. Very little fertilizer used, very little if any chemical/spray used in the fields.

May through November-December they graze in pastures, no feeding involved.

Corn is the big target in these conversations but we didn't plant any last year. Hopefully get some in this Spring though...

It's all about the bottom-line. When raising cattle feed costs will always be your biggest expensive. Keep your input costs low(fert and spray is $$$).

And hope Mother Nature helps out because there is one thing money can't buy.

Rain.

Rain is key - we're 15 years into a ??? year drought.
It's so dry in this country, they are going to tree ring data - as the written records only go back into the 1890's. Last I heard, the last comparable drought was in the 1870's - while Billy the Kid was traipsing these parts.
We desperately need rain, and moreso winter snows.
