Through a very weird twist of fate I have a dozen barrels and six stocks that I now own and have not much of a clue as to what I have. Anyone out there good at being able to ID things like that? If so tell me what u need pics of. Most of the barrels haven't been chambered yet and I know what caliber they are. As far as the manufacturer goes, clueless.

I can usually make a pretty good guess as to what is stock is for by a pic of the action footprint. In other words, from the top... And the action screw spacing can be helpful.

Unchambered barrels usually have the info stamped on the action end stub. Usually makers name, caliber and twist are stamped thereon. Sometimes it takes a bit of imagination to decipher it... smile

Threaded shank length, thread diameter, and thread pitch would go along way towards identifying the actions intended for barrel use.

Starting the thread over, with plenty of pics, would be a good idea. As mentioned, closeups of the inletting and barrel shanks, along with thread dimensions as noted above would be key.

I will post pics tomorrow night. I was able to get a bit of info about some of them. A couple Hart barrels and two McMillan stocks. As well as three Remington stocks.

Much thanks to grasshopper for his help. Enough good cannot be conveyed in words. Despite the mountain of emails and attached pics he was able to ID nearly everything. Thank you, it is refreshing to find a person willing to share knowledge that was no doubt painstakingly obtained. You are to be commended by all.
