Just saw a ruger m77 mk2 stainless , synthetic stock , with iron sights in .243
I have only seen these in large bier guns. Are they common or more on the rare side?

D7mn, I don't think I've seen anything like you're desribing since the old tang safety mod.77 that I think was designated Mod.77RS. Like you said, not unusual on the thumpers, and may not be rare on other calibers, but I haven't seen them.

I've seen 1 at one of the Portland gunshows last year. I think that was a pretty rare and unique animal.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sights are aftermarket, because other than that, sounds like a standard MKII All Weather.

early mark II all weather rifles did offer some with open sites but i think they stopped offering it after the first year or so. i could be wrong on all that so i reserve the right to be clueless.

You are not wrong. Ruger did for sure make the All-Weather with open sights. They were the boat paddle stock model Mark IIs. They did not, however, make a stainless model with the tang safety.

If that was directed to me I agree and never tried to imply they made a SS in the tang safety.

The first part of my post, pertaining to the All-Weather with sights was directed at you and in agreement with your post. The second part, about Ruger not making an All-Weather with a tang safety, was not directed at your post. Just stating a fact that I thought relevant to the conversation.

Several years ago, the LGS had a whole rack of stainless 77's with sights. They didn't sell well here and they lingered on the shelf forever.

I fondled a 243 and 308 multiple times, but never brought one home.

There are three Ruger All Weathers with iron sights at my local Cabelas right now. They're all .300 RCM's.

The sights look factory as they are stainless like the barrel but I'm no expert.
