I had a friend over to help him work up a load for his 7MM-08. He wa\nts to use the Nosler 120gr Ballistic tip. He was using Varget and his grouping were all not bad and he got his rifle zeroed some what while shooting from 45 to 47grs in 1/2 grain steps. After he was done I had him try my loads out of his gun. I also use the 120gr Ballistic tip. My load grouped 4" higher than his at 100 yards, After he seen that it went higher he said he wanted to stick to Varget as my load must be slower. I told him same rifle with same bullet but different loads the one that prints higher than the other is going faster. Whos right here, I know when I work up load the more powder I use the higher the bullet prints up the ladder. He confused the heck out of me with his thinking.

Faster will print higher but I'm betting it wasn't velocity that created the swing in POI.

Harmonics, COAL, who knows. Sometimes powder charge doesn't mean chit. Same COAL with Varget gave the same groups.

Often times a heavier slower bullet will print higher, because of longer recoil impulse. That is probably what you're buddy was thinking. The real way to find out is to buy a $100 cronograph and bet a 6pk.

Different powders burn differently, you may not have the faster load. It's also not unreasonable to have a load developed for one rifle not shoot the same POI in a similar but different rifle. Too many variables to tell you exactly what is going on.

Chronograph both loads if you really want to know.

I bet his rifle is a finicky sumbitch too.
