After hearing and reading good things about them I looked at some Ruger American rifles today. When I held the rifle the safety switch felt uncomfortable in the web of my hand. It made me wonder how it would feel in recoil. Can those of you with experience shooting the rifles share any thoughts about this? Thanks...

Paria - "switch felt uncomfortable in the web of my hand." Uncomfortable in what way? My RAR safety fits just under my thumb when gripped which is what I like about my older M77 tanger. Homesteader

Of course, it is not sharp, but when I gripped the rifle in a shooting position the safety would stick somewhat sharply into the web of my hand. I am not familiar with this on any of my rifles. I'm looking at a .270 and was wondering if the recoil of the rifle would make it worse.

No problems with my .30-06.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Paria, Mine's a .308 and I can honestly say I've never noticed or thought about it. You must roll your trigger hand over the wrist of the stock more than I do because I just went and picked mine up and the web of my hand was below and slightly to the side of the safety switch.

I have always thought the tang safety was the best spot for me.That being said,I have no trouble with the position of the Americans safety.
