A massive bighorn sheep that died of natural causes and was later found by wildlife officials could be a new World's Record, according to the Boone and Crockett Club.

Wow! What a ram! Amazing in this day and age he escaped detection long enough to grow that big...must have lived in some remote Alberta country?

Scroll down and get a load of those Kansas and Alberta whitetails....good grief!

nice to see the big bastards still occasionally die of old age....means there are chunks of ground still not hunted much....

I remember a few years back when this giant died of natural causes on Ft Carson, Colorado.

Yet another Canmore ram that exceeds 204 inches. Last year (2013) a client of mine was there and shot a 198 inch monster, but was "disappointed". Some truly huge rams over there, in the mine. But, difficult to kill (legally). The current B&C World Record was killed there, though.

Cadomin, not Canmore wink

Bob and Rattler- he was found on the mine, IIRC, which is off limits for hunting. Lots of guys that have tags for that area wait at the edges of the mine for one to step off, similar to guys waiting on the park boundaries at Yellow Stone. This guy obviously was smart enough to not walk off the mine during autumn wink

I don't know if he's still on display, but a really huge Desert Bighorn, nicknamed Spots, was displayed for many years in the Las Vegas Convention Center. He had very long, pointed horns which, in the wild, are almost never seen on desert sheep. He died in a captive study situation at the ripe of old age of 14. E

Yeah, "Spots" was a monster. As was several of the rams that came out of Aravaipa. If memory serves me correctly, Arthur Dubs killed his 198 desert ram in Aravaipa. And to the Canada guy who called me on the Alberta mine area that holds so many extraordinary rams, yes, it's Cadomin.

There ARE some huge rams in the Canmore area also. It is bow only, and right adjacent to Banff National Park. IRC it is a late hunt during the rut, but by then the weather is really miserable and the terrain is very steep.

Yep, very true. But the fabled area where all the monsters come from is Cadomin, which is where this guy was found.

The ram was found by Fish & Wildlife officers as they went searching for the ram as it was not seen thru the winter and thought it may have been poached. The ram is very close to the mine border near Hinton with Jasper National Park.

Hopefully the links work to articles.

That would be a very special trophy, a beautiful sheep.
