I would like to learn to make some elk sounds for fun and to consider archery hunting once I get comfortable. Went and bought a Primos single reed and stuck it in as the directions say and began gagging. Not sure what it is, but can't seem to figure out to get it seated to try to make a noise. How much of the fabric like tab can I cut off and still make it useful? Any other tips to try as having my hands free might be useful if trying to lure an elk in closer? Thanks
Keep Smiling

Eastman makes a bite style call that works pretty well and can be held in your teeth if need be. I have never been able to use a diaphragm call due to gagging. There seem to be those who can and those who can't. Never thought this discussion would be about elk calling though

I don't gag but will admit that when learning it tickled so I started laughing through the reed. Always funny as hell to everyone around.
