Had some time to shoot before a local gun club meeting so I took along four "Pocket Guns"...at least that is what they used to be considered...

Top gun is a 70s vintage Walter PPK/S .22 that I picked up last year. Came with three magazines. DA is good and SA breaks clean.

Next is a Walther PP .22 that was made in the 1960s. DA pull is horrendous but the SA is about as good as the PPk/S...it also came with three mags. Someone replaced the plastic thumbrest grips with smooth wood...I like it better...

Next is one of my favorite .22 handguns...Beretta 87 Cheetah...that Beretta just saw fit to discontinue. The DA is very smooth and the SA crisp. I've had four of these and all have been excellent shooters and not one malfunction in thousands of rounds fired. Several of my students have ended up with these as CC guns when they could not handle anything larger. The gun can be carried in the hammer down DA first shot mode, same with the safety on or Condition I Cocked&Locked like a SA.

Last is a 60s vintage Walther PP .32. I had lots of .32 ammo leftover from several KelTecs I had and wanted something to burn it up in. Nice little gun but with its straight blowback action does recoil a little more than a locked breech gun would. DA is pretty smooth and SA comparable with the other Walthers.

Shooting was at 10 yards at a target of my making with a 2" white center...very easy to see with standard sights. Ammo for the .22s was Winchester Super-X 40 grain solids. The .32 was Winchester white box. The bullets have a flat point.

This was after two magazines with each gun firing one magazines from each then rotating to the next gun.

The next time through 10 shots were fired from each gun in two shot strings from the low ready as fast I could get on target. This was into the same target that the SA shots had been fired into...

The DA pull on the PP .22 was the cause of the shot dispersion being much wider than the rest of the guns but still the gun is capable of putting shots into the kill zone which is all that counts....

...if nothing more a pleasant way to spend an hour....

That is a cool set of old pocket guns. Not to mention a fun way to spend a couple hours.

My little PP .22 also has a horrendous DA pull, with a decent SA pull. Fun little gun, though somewhat finicky in ammo selection. My version prefers ammo on the hot side.

Center hold or 6:00?

How is it that you are able to read my mind regarding what guns I want Bob?!

It's really quite annoying! grin

In envy you guys with Walther's that work/shoot well. I've never owned, borrowed or rented one that would shoot reliably for me with the ammo that I had at the time---.22 or .32-----guess I'm Walther-cursed? They're Bond-uber-cool.

...there you go again Andrew...thow shall not covet thy neighbors property...or guns...or daughters... Last time I stopped at your cabin you walked away with one of my rare Smiths...never to be seen again except on the CF.

They were all dead center hold....and out at 25 they do all shoot a little high...which is better than a little low.

I'm thinking of planting the top of the front sight at the bottom of a bunny smile

It's always easier to 6:00 hold on small game than covering the whole animal with your front sight and not being able to see it! I likes dem pistols boss!
