Picked up a # on a whim at the gunshop and now have a little buyers remorse.
There sure isn't much data out there. Seems to be in the h4831...re19...burn area.
I find 243 and 3006 data but that's about it. Was hoping it could be used in. 270win. 300win, 7 mag.....but not finding much love.

So...anyone have any experience or input?

I love it with 150's and 155's in my 300 wsm. Incredible speeds and very accurate. I haven't played with it in much else. I've ran 150's to 3470 in a 24" wsm.

Well, there's a cartridge I don't shoot. They show incredible sped in the 06 too...like 165s a hair under 3000. I'm trying to figure if they dont show data for other casings cause it doesn't give top end performance or if its so finicky its dangerous. Why do manufacturers bother with marketing such limited use stuff I wonder!

The Hodgdon 2013 Annual Reloading Manual shows data for the following:

270 Win with 130 grain Barnes TSX bullet
opening load of 52.2 grains yields 2,994 fps --> Max load of 55.5 gives 3,144 fps.

There is also data on the 7 Mag with bullet weights up through 180 grain Berger VLD's and the 300 Win Mag has data for bullets through the heavies (200 grains +).

There are 2 rules to success:

1. Never tell everything that you know.

I will post this again. I purchased an 8lb jug of Superformance when it first became available. I used the listed load of 65 grains behind a 150 bullet in my 06. The load was accurate and was deadly on Mule Deer. This powder is do dense that 65 grains just comes up to the bottom of the neck. I wanted to use this in my 308 and 7WSM so I called Hodgdon and spoke with a tech named Mike. Mike stated that Superformance is very sensitive and to use only listed loads. He also told me that I could not use it in the 308 and 7 WSM. He went on to say that Hornady sells Superformance loads in non data listed calibers, because there are over 40 blends of Superformance and only one is available to us reloaders. The one that we can buy has the most uses.

With that in mind, Dusty, they need to start Marketing the whole line IMO. Superformance 2, 3, etc. I think it'd sell.

Dusty...what kind of speed did you get w/that 65 gr/150 load?

I'm thinking a superfast ttsx 150 could work for ANYTHING short of dangerous game.
I've also seen reconendations to use mag primers.

My exact same experience, word for word. I bought an 8 lb jug.

There are many different blends of this powder. One blend for the reloaders, other blends for commercial loads & a proprietary blend for Hornady commercial ammo specifically.

I bought a pound a little while back to try in a 280 Rem but haven't gotten around to using any of it. One interesting thing I noticed about the data on Hogdon's load site is it lists Superformance with a 140 gr. Partition in 280 Rem starting load of 54.0 gr and 2905 fps. Max load listed is 57.0 gr and 2983 fps. 3 more gr. of powder only nets 78 more fps?

Here is my data in my 06. Lapua cases WLR primers 65 grains Superformance ( Listed load )150 grain C/T bullet. 10 shot average velocity was 3112 ES 14. I shoot at 6200 feet elevation so this will have some effect on velocity. The rifle it was shot through is a custom with a 24 inch Pac-Nor i-12 twist barrel. I chambered it with a reamer that has an Obermeyer throat. Dimensions are .3085 diameter .085 long and 1 degree 30 minute lead into the lands.

Odd indeed. So you figure why bother?
