Picked up a Remington KS Mountain rifle chambered in 30/06, or at least I think I did. It has a KS stock and the barrel doesn't have Remington or the address, just the caliber and a few proof marks, but the date code puts this rifle made in March 1986. Where these rifles around in 1986?

I think my buddy got his LH 280 KS right about then. His had the jeweled bolt, no sights, no writing on the barrel but the proof and chambering. He still has it and it is beat to hell and still shoots great.

Post up some pics of yours if you can.

Is the chambering stamped just a couple inches from the recoil lug?

Just checked Remington's website and it stated the KS was made from 87 to the present.

These were custom shop rifles, and I don't believe they got the usual writing on the barrels. Also IIRC, we had a used one on the rack in a store where I was working in 1985.

I just checked mine. That's how my KS barrel looks and it came straight from the custom shop to the store I was working in at the time I bought it.

Yes the caliber is in very small font on the left side of the barrel along with "AG". On the right side of the barrel is a small triangle with an "A" inside and "REP" along with "99". The stock is definitely a KS pattern with a remington recoil pad and weighs in at 26oz. It has a blued 24" light contour barrel with no sights. I'm gonna call Rem and see what they can tell me about it. Thanks for the comments so far.

I wish I could add to this conversation but this is the only memory left of mine chambered in 7mm RM. Bought it in the late eighties.

The AG date code is March 1986.

Just talked to Rem and they confirmed it is a Custom Shop KS Mountain chambered in 30/06 built in 1986. I guess this is one of the early ones. Thanks again for all the help and sorry for wasting anyones time, I didn't know I could call Rem and they would look it up for me until I read it last night.

No problem, if were that concerned about wasting time, we wouldn't spend so much of it on here.

I love to stumble into one of those old LH KS 30-06 guns. I had 2 280's and let them go over time.
