How do I remove the forestock from my Winchester 9422? I've got the barrel band screw removed but it still seems very tight and I don't want to damage anything.

Thanks, John.

Sometimes the rear barrel band is stuck to the barrel; try some penetrating oil, like Kroil, at the top of the barrel/band then tap the band with a rubber mallet or soft wood to get it off. Other times you have to remove the front sight, the front barrel band, the rear barrel band, and the magazine tube before you can get the forend off. Just depends on the angle between the barrel and the magazine tube on how much pressure is being put on the forestock and wedging it in.

One question....Why does it need removed? why take the chance unless something is wrong with the forearm.
I'd leave it alone.
"Give it one more twist"......crack......oops.
Leave it alone.

Wondering the same thing? Several factors to consider. Walnut can swell with humidity. Original fitting is tight. Go slow if you must remove it.

Remember when you refit the forearm it may some play in it because you loosened the fitting to remove it.
