Hopefully, I will be heading out to the range this afternoon to try out an ER Shaw barreled, 1 in 8 twist, 220 Swift. This is my first time out playing with a fast twist .224 rifle. I have the usual contingent of powders laying around like 4064, H4895, H4350 and a couple of others.

I thought I would see if anyone here had a load they really liked with the 75gr A-MAx bullets.

220 Swift and 22-250AI have essentially the same powder capacity so a load for either cartridge would be quite helpful.

THANKS!

MARK

4064, 4895 and RL 15/AR Comp in my 22.250 with a one in 7 twist.. gave me the best velocity, and best accuracy....

thought slower burn rates would supply the best velocity, but that proved to be wrong...

I have 300 of them stashed away, and they are NOT for sale! grin

My 220 Swift 8 twist, MIGHT become a 220 Weatherby Rocket, ($$ permitting) and if so then these 75's will REALLY fly...

I have had 4 different .22-250AI rifles and shot 75amaxs out of all them... My pet load was H4831sc running 41.5-42.0grains just off lands.... All four of them loved this load and it seemed like a solid deal... Just built another one a year ago and can't find a powder that the gun likes with 75amaxs.... Only difference is who built this current rifle.... Starting to have issues with the smith... I have some new loads sitting on the bench waiting for the rain or wind or life to let up enough to try them...

That is very helpful info! Thanks for that load data, I will try it for sure!

If your rifle does not care for the 75's, I will gladly take them off of your hands :-D

Ha!! 75 A-MAXS bullets are like gold or silver, hang on to them no matter what:) I had picked up two 600ct boxes about a year ago and that the last time I have seen any on any shelf....

I picked up some 75 BTHP, but this current gun does not like them either...

That load was/is on the warm side so go easy with it of course... I recently came across a few 5lbs jugs of R-15 so I have some of those ready to go also... Can't remember load data off the top of head, but don't mind sharing...

Optimax90 - good for you snagging those AMAX's. I couldn't even find the dusty spots where they could've been at LGS! Sometimes Santa can come early. Homesteader

I've found the BTHPs to be more accurate in every 22 caliber rifle I own with a fast twist vs the A Maxes...

I have tried them a little but nothing had stood out yet as a good load... Was really hoping that I could find one, cause you can get the 75 BTHP almost anywhere...

Thanks guys SO very much for the load data! I screwed my new Vortex 6.5-20 scope atop the rifle yesterday, loaded some various loads to try and se out to give a wringing out with this rifle. Problem was, I could NOT get the scope adjusted over enough on the windage side to be on paper at 100 yards.

My temporary solution was to post an extra target to the immediate right of the one I was aiming at, and it worked! I got some decent groups with the rifle and both 55 and 75gr A Max's.

Tomorrow, shimming the scope rings and getting it to dial in with the scope settings near the middle of thier range. Then another try with additional loadings.

Could not have shot this rifle at all without your help. Many thanks to all who opined here or via PM. So far 4064 and R-22 are all I have on hand to try, but one or the other should get me into some decent shooting. The rifle is showing promise.
