Here's about as close as I can come...one piece Redfield base and rings with a Lyman 4X scope.

I really like that set-up Bob. I know I've already told you that, but it looks great. Nice and vintage, pretty clean ol rifle!!

Alright, I stated this thread so I'm going to show you guys the Winchester model 70's I still have in the stable. I guess I'll list them from smallest caliber to largest:

1. Winchshester (WRA made in 1980) XTR 270 fwt with Burris 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle in Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings (lows). Winchester hadn't made a fwt for 17 years (1963). When this one came out in 1981, many Winchester collectors swarmed to purchase these:

2. 1957 (pre 64) 270 fwt in Mcmillan hunters compact stock with 1" red pachmayr decelerator recoil pad, Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings (mediums), and Zeiss Terra 3-9x42:

3. 5 digit stainless classic sporter 7mm rem mag, in painted and bedded factory Tupperware stock, Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings (lows), and Nikon 4.5-14x40 with side focus scope:

4. 1956 30-06 fwt, original stock, Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings (lows), Burris FFII 2-7x35 with ballistic plex reticle scope:

5. 6 digit classic sporter 30-06, cerakoted sniper grey, painted and bedded Tupperware stock. At the moment, it isn't wearing rings or bases and has no scope. I'm thinking about sending it in to JES for a rebore to 9.3x62mm.....:

6. 2008 limited edition fwt 300 wsm, FN BACO manufacture, EW tube, Talley lightweight lows (93702), Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 scope, Ernie's trigger spring (2 3/8 pound pull):

7. 1959 338 win mag (Alaskan), Leupold dual dovetail mounts and rings (lows), Burris FFII 3-9x40, pillar and glass bedded factory stock:

8. 1956 375 H&H with newer (1963) dual crossbolt stock, Leupold PRW mounts and rings, Zeiss conquest 3.5-10x44 scope:

That about rounds out my model 70 collection. Thanks to everyone who has posted pics of their wonderful model 70's. It's a great reference for me as well as others here. Have a great weekend!!!

Thanks Bob. It is one of my favorites as well. After I bought that rifle, I sold 2 of my other Model 70 30-06's.. I'm extremely grateful that the other 06's went to good homes (EricM and 444Matt)..

Thanks Karry. I went cheap on the finish: Rustoleum stone mineral brown texture paint. I went over that with a few coats of matte clear. It's holding up surprisingly well..

It weighs in at 8.5lb so it won't weigh you down. Next project I predict will be to find an OD Edge in a short action.
