I recently had a question on Swift Scirocco seating depth and Dirtfarmer suggested I look at the Berger seating depth tip of seating bullets of the same load at 0.01, 0.050, 0.090 and 0.130 from the rifling. Although this was not with Swifts it seems like it worked with 200g Nosler BST. This load was still on the mild side but guess the rifle bullet combo should work smile

There are 12 shots beneath the tape. The first seating depth (0.010) shot just under an inch and then opened up with the middle two depths. I never expected the shortest OAL to shoot very well and it turned out to be the best of the 4. Here are a picture of the final group with the other 9 shots covered with tape. 100m 4 x 3 shot groups 338 Win Mag.

I would have posted this in the hunting rifle section, but I just wanted to post in the same forum that I asked the question initially.

....and if I can put my money where my mouth is, 90 Lapua Scenars in my 6x45 should do the same. Kissing the lands isnt showing me squat and groups like the others did....

I have a 6.5x47 that I have been messing around with. I worked up a load with the Berger 130s and was getting great speed and spreads. The accuracy just wasn't there so I followed Bergers info on seating depth. From left to right +.10, -.040, -.080, -.120
I did adjust the scope for the last group, but the POI was the same through all seating depths.

Here is another series. This combo like .040-.050 off the lands

Looks like it worked. Wish I could say the same for the 6x45. Actually erased the board and started over. The oddity I've got now is 55's and 90's are essentially the same elevation wise, but the 90's are 4" left and still crappy groups.

I'm sure there is some voodoo I'm missing.
