I posted this in the fly fishing forum, but thought I would share it here, too. Located in near Mountain Home in NE Arkansas, Dry Run Creek is all catch & release and is a first-class trout fishery. Lots of fish and some big ones, too. I can't imagine a better place to take kids to help them have fun as they are getting started! https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...ds_first_fly_fishing_trip_Dr#Post8962428

What gear are your kids running? My oldest wants to start and I am not sure where to even start as far as what gear to g with for a beginning 12 yr old fly fisherman.
Looks like the kids had a great time. The lessons before hand I am sure paid off for a less frustrating and more productive time once actually fishing.

Nothing fancy on the gear at all. Kids were using 4/5 wt. rods and then just egg patterns or San Juan worms. Small enough stream that they don't need long casts, but plenty of fish and activity to keep them interested. Best wishes to you and your kids for fun on the water!
