This rifle was fugly a few weeks ago. The toe and butt plate were broken, bolt handle loose, no rear sight assy and the takedown screw was missing. I got this 95% stock from Gunville for $82 delivered and was really pleased with the quality. I had to remove a lot of material to make it match the new butt plate. I soldered the bolt handle and found a bolt that will work for the takedown screw until I get something better. Never did find a rear sight. Cerakoted it and put it back together today. I can only shoot 17 yards here at home and this thing will put them in one hole. I had heard that these were very accurate rifles and they are. If you find one, buy it.

Did you do the cerakote? Looks good, how did you prep and apply?

Completely disassemble, degrease, blast 120 grit aluminum oxide. I then heat any parts that might still hold oil, like barrel threads or anything that can't be disassembled. I spray on the cerakote and bake it. It takes time to get everything racked to bake. Some colors are easier than others to apply. It's like Christmas when the stuff comes out of the oven, unless you find a spot that was missed.

Very nice job. Nice stock. I have never used Ceracote but I have used GunKote from Brownell's and you can get some very good looking finishes.

One thing I learned about these kinds of finishes is that it appears to look and feel very hard out of the oven but they actually continue to cure for several days after baking and it is best just to let them sit at least 3 days before assembly as they may chip slightly. A week is probably better. After that they can be hard as nails I have a 10/22 receiver and barrel I did 6 years ago and they still look just as good as the first day

Just took possession of my LH 581 this week. Think I'll ship it off to Voelker to have it rebarreled into a 17 HM II and the magic he does to the rest of it.

By the way, does anyone else have issues with the 10 round mags? I have feeding issues with it when full. When I take out the top 2, it settles down.

The 10 round mags are lousy. They tend to spit ammo out or they fall apart. I only use the short mags, but the supply has dried up.

wondered why I could find lots of 10 rounders and no 5 rounders.
