It really is a nice marlin,for sure,But there is something up with a 4 digit serial number stamped in the front of the trigger plate!!
the original model 1893 rifles started with s/n over 100,000. All early Marlins were s/n in sequence regardless of which model. later after WW1 on the model 93's the serial numbers were on the bottom tang under the lever,most were 4 digit with a prefix, or suffix, cant remember right off the top of my head. You might want to get that rifle lettered ,or at least go to the "MARLIN COllECTORS FORUM" or the "MARLIN OWNERS FORUM"and discuss the rifle. again great looking rifle. Don
