I do some guiding for Two Ocean Pass outfitters, summer trips and hunts. Our trailhead is near Moran, Wy and our camp is fairly close to the southern border of Yellowstone Park. My daughter has gone in on a few times with me, but my wife and son never had. We had a family of 8 book a trip and it seemed like a good time to take my family in too. My kids ride quite a bit, but my wife does not. My daughter is 10 and son is 7. Ruby our heeler pup made her first trip in too. She's in a few of the pics.

Camp is a 6 hour ride in and then one day we also made a day trip to Bridger Lake.

My son getting caught up in the cache. He'd figured out where the butterfingers were. The cache is used to keep food out of the reach of bears.

This is crossing Atlantic Creek in the Yellowstone Meadows. This is right before it flows into the Yellowstone river. You can see Hawksrest on the right. The mountains way in the background are in Yellowstone.

This is us at the Parting of the Waters, right near our camp. The creek naturally splits on the continental divide here. One is Atlantic creek, the other Pacific creek.

It was my 38th birthday up there and the cook surprised me with two Dutch oven birthday cakes complete with candles.

Looks like terrific experience and real fun, Ralphie.

Nice pics, and nice looking family. Terrific hat you got too.

Ever run into any of them grizzle bears? Whats the plan then?

Thanks for posting.

We do a fair amount. Although, we didn't see any on this trip.

In the fall we try and get elk and deer back to camp that day if we can. Sometimes they poke their head into camp that is why I like having a dog along too. My old dog Lucy warned us more than a few times about bears.

Enjoyed your pictures and narrative. Appears you and your family had a very enjoyable time.

A couple years ago, I was coming down a trail with my llamas when I met a young couple on horses going up. They had their very small daughter, maybe 4, on top of a big mule, every inch of 16 hands. She looked like a fly perched up there. I couldn't get the llamas more than 10' off the trail at that point so I asked them if their horses were familiar with them. Some horses go snakey with llamas. He said 'I guess we'll find out' and kept coming. He had the mule with his girl aboard on a long lead. Luckily it didn't spook like some will. If it had been me, I would have at the very least got that mule snubbed up close and probably would have got off and got a good grip on it. He just let the girl take her chances. I was NOT impressed.

Super! One of these I need my family to be that 'other' family. I'd love to see that country. I'm guessing it'd be a challenge to find a horse to pack me though... wink

Pointer,

Won't be a problem at all. We have big horses. And most of our guests can't ride.
