I have a lead on a short (18") 500 with extended magazine tube and synthetic stocks for $300. Is this a good price? The 500 seems to have a good reputation.

That price is decent. The days of the $150 mossberg 500 is long past unfortunately.

I have one in .410, as simple as it is, I consider it a keeper for O.D. of dove season each year.

I have been shooting and hunting with a 500 for 30 years without a malfunction. You should get a lot more that $300.00 worth out of a Mossberg.

I'm not sure how it's possible to have an 18" barreled 500 with a mag extension. 500s have a large threaded hole in the end of the mag, so you can't add an extension. There is a 20" barrel version that has a LONGER mag, but it can't take an extension either. 590s can take an extension, but they aren't 500s.

He didn't say it had a magazine extension-he said it had an extended magazine. Did they possibly make some of these in such a configuration for home defense? If so, the barrels must be basically proprietary to that specific frame.

That's the "extended mag" for Mossberg 500s, but it's so much longer that it requires a 20" barrel. AFAIK, there is no way to have a longer than stock magazine AND an 18" barrel on a 500.
