I've had them breaching closer than I liked, when I lived in Kodiak. Got tired of counting the fin slaps once that one was making, must have been 50 or so.

The news story for that said the pilot pulled up because he heard shouts from the people on the shore. In a Beaver you can't even hear the person next to you.

Not that day ,a friend had a charter out there at the same time and wound up with 2 pinks for the whole boat , but you are right , they are starting to show.

That is quite an event and some quick action by a good pilot. Not sure how he saw that whale.
Not only can you hardly hear anything in a Beaver except the engine/exhaust, but I normally can't see things at close range out in front due to that high instrument panel. I get a kick from that art deco style "deHavilland" in the middle.

It was probably the whale blowing that the pilot saw and caused him to pull up. I had to rerun the video to properly see it.

Lotsa Coho MM. Every charter boat that I checked today, had limits, and many still are bringing in limits of Kings.
