My son connected on this fine Northern California Blacktail about 4 hours ago with his bow.

The kid is simply magic! grin

Bow season opened last Saturday.
Our deer are WAY ahead of most in the country, our local rifle season ENDS on September 21st and believe it or not that is when the rut starts!

Super! I've loved watching your son grow up through your posts and pics. You did well!

Someday I'm going to give those blacktails a try. Very good looking critter that lives in some pretty cool looking country.

How much did he weigh?

Thanks Fellas.
Yeah some find it amazing that we're deer hunting in July.
That buck was fresh out of velvet by only a couple days.
Thomas was targeting a much better buck, but this one came by and was just too good to pass up, guess it's going to be up to me to find him.... wink
The zone we live in here at home doesn't have very good genetics or feed, most hunters kill 2x2 bucks, we're lucky to have ground we can manage, and even though it's private the hunting conditions are incredibly difficult with 100 degree days common and stalking these wary bucks on the dry leaves and grass is like walking on potato chips.
We're allowed two buck tags, usually use the other to hunt up north later in the fall.

Best wishes to all you guys with your hunts year.
