Wife and I went to play darts at a place along the river. About a 1/2 hour later the bartender said a women needed help. I ran down to the river, and as I was headed out I told the wife to call 911.

Sure enough, there was a woman swimming in the river near a red buoy, but she was having a hard time going against the current. I told her to go with the current at an angle and I got her to the shore. She was with another person, a guy of the age of 42, he was no where to be seen.

The rescue showed a few minutes later but as of 2 hours in the guy hadn't been found. He is gone.

The woman was obviously 'self medicated' and apparently the two decided to take a swim.

Spent the next 1/2 hour talking with the Sheriff's dept and Fire Rescue.

Godspeed.

Messes your day up, for sure, to see that.

Perhaps I'm cynical, but so long as it ain't me or a friend/family member, I'm numb to it.

Still, I heard that he was 'slow' so I'm a little ambivalent towards the broad.

Damn.

My day wasn't so bad now.

Lucky for the woman, the bartender sent someone down there who was smarter than she was.

Good for you Scott, some people still care and will get involved. Like you!

Lucky for her a retired Coastie happened by. Hats off to you Mr. Steelhead. Too bad about her friend though.

Darn Steel, they could have both been in Heaven. wink

Just kidding. She was blessed that you were there for sure.

So much for avoiding bars.

Here's hoping she takes advantage of the second chance you gave her.

Scott;
It's been too long since I've sent greetings your way, so here they are along with kudos for doing the right thing.

I had to run to Vancouver and back today for work which is a five hour hop each way and I saw the aftermath of three separate MVA's.

While I don't know if there were fatalities, two of them looked bad.

Those MVA's like your incident show how slender a thread we hold onto life with some days, or at least that's what I take away from it Scott.

There but for the grace of God go I is about all I can say, you know?

Thanks again for helping out though Scott and again all the best to you folks.

Dwayne

Could have saved me a lot of trouble in the fire service if I had just listened to rockingbar.. "Fugg that Cap, it's just nature weeding out the weak.. And tell that to the mom for me, would ya?"
