I'm thinking about picking up a 7x42. I've run several 8x42's and just keep going back to my 6.5x32 IF's, not because of their glass, but because of the depth of field/how easy they are to use. This is especially true in thick woods and while still hunting.

Anyone using the MeoStar 7x42? Good, bad, ugly?

I used one for a few years no longer own it . It was very good in lowlight, deep woods. I wish it had more power though so going to a 10x50 next pair or Zeiss FL 10x42

How do you compare the meostar to meopro quality wise?

I have the 7x42 Meostars. They are superb for woods hunting. If you want to count tines/judge antlers at 500 yards, they may not be your best choice, but for low light performance, they are simply amazing. The other big plus to the Meopta offerings that I've noticed is that they cut glare (snow, sun on water, etc) noticeably, and have very little lens flair, even in glaring light conditions.

I'm extremely pleased with mine. I've used them since 2010, I believe.

As to the question of the MeoPro vs MeoStar, what Meopta has told me is that the Pro's are not built quite as ruggedly as the Stars. That's not to say the Pro's aren't well-made, but there is a difference in the material/manufacturing process for the barrels, hinge, etc. The Pro's are lighter. My father has a pair of 8x42's, and they are also excellent. I would say the optics are so close to identical it's almost a non-issue. I can perceive a small difference during low light conditions, but I am in my late 30's. He is 70. He can't tell a difference, so he went with the Pro's.

Meopta warrants/backs both the same way, so you are covered on both if there's a problem.
