OP 1899guy Campfire Member 1 Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 494 East Coast NC	My father bought me an 1895 Cowboy in 45-70, that is "as new in box". Really beautiful shape. I love the gun but have only shot it a few times, single-shot style. I ran a few cartridges into the magazine and noticed that they feed poorly and want to jam up, as they pass through the receiver. Oil did not help. Has anybody experienced this and if so, any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Before you send it to Remington to be looked at make sure you work the lever fast and see if this "fixes" the issue. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Sometimes rounds load fine when the action is worked either fast or slow and NOT when the action is operated at the other speed. As a bolt/single shot gun user, I had a lot to learn to get the lever gun to be a repeater. Last edited by LouisB; 07/19/14. Some spelling errors can be corrected by a vowel movement. ~ MOLON LABE ~

They're always slicking up lever guns. I have an 1895 Marlin CB that was slicked up by Rusty Marlin, the CAS handle for Rob Zimmerman, formally production engineer for Ruger in NH. It's the slickest 45-70 Marlin I've ever handled. I don't think Rob does that work commercially. You can do a word search for him. I think he's now in SC, working for a gun mfg. down there, maybe FN, not sure. He makes custom Mauser actions, IIRC. DF Here, set up for CAS shooting with tang sight pictured with a Pedersoli Sharps, both in .45-70. Edited to add, Rusty is with Beretta. Last edited by Dirtfarmer; 07/25/14.
