To me, there is a difference between a deer drive and push. And I know Dave understands what I'm taking about. I'll take a different route to someone's stand, maybe a zig-zag or walk through a stand of cedar or tags to move a deer in your direction.

What I got stuck in the middle of, unknown to me during the 2008 TZONE hunt, was a good old fashion WI Deer Drive. I was posted on a dry creek bed for about 4 hours that deer used a bunch when I was bow hunting.

I hear cars, trucks, wheeler, tractors, and more people than I care to know about. They surrounded me and no BS, bullets were going every where. I sat down on the ground with my back against a flat, large boulder and prayed I didn't get caught in the cross fire. and THAT was my last ever TZONE hunt.

Yep, you know from first hand experience that I will walk an extra mile after getting out of my own hunting blind or stand or maybe finished with a still hunt route. I'll make an effort to stir something towards a fellow hunter within our group if possible. But I don't do the 10 man wide line drives to a poster or posters.

Yep. I knew what you were talking about. smile

I've never really seen the huge drives in MN but I've also hunted in mostly smaller groups.

In WI, even on public land I've seen up to 30 guys on a Thanksgiving Day drive.

I haven't done a drive during regular rifle season in many years, although I do participate once in a while in blackpowder season.
then it is usually just immediate family.
I still remember the firing of a 30-06 with the end of the barrel about 18 inches from my ear.
and he missed,besides.

Yes, it's exactly like that.

But I'm not really a horse person so I don't do it.

Ever since our party broke up In the mid 90's I have been hunting on my own for the most part. We used to do drives and it was kinda fun but now I much prefer going it alone and sitting. I would love to have a hunting party again if everyone had their own spot. Not into drives anymore.

This and a batch of deerwhacker444's baked beans!

For now, a local delicacy snack.

Damn you Dave! That's some good looking chow. Unfortunately with me on the low salt diet, it's all pretty much off limits for me.

Ribs are about ready for the next stage.

I'm cooking for 6, possibly 7.

I'm cherishing the day, cherishing my time with family and friends. Every now and then we are reminded of how important it is to laugh and love, soak in each other's company.

Well...

It's all cookin real fine. The family is about to arrive at home here to share in this meal, to catch up on each other's news, laugh, joke, plan things....

Tom, we're just sick here.

I've never dedicated a family BBQ to anybody before, but we've got a guy in mind as we charge forward through this day.

Would you, Tom? Carry the burden?

If you don't care to, I could.

Your call.

I will do it here.

Guys, what Dave is talking about is sad news I hate to say. But our good friend of the fire and a great friend in person has passed away.
Guys I'm just sick about this but we've lost Grizzly Bill. Bill got sick on his family trip to Oregon to see his son, daughter in law and grandson, and he died in the hospital. His wonderful wife Judy told me this afternoon.

Please keep our friend Bill in your thoughts and family prayers. He was a heck of a man, a veteran, and a great friend.

RIP Grizzly Bill.
You are missed ready.

I feel like I got punched in the gut. Just shocked. I never got the privilege to meet him in person, but we conversed through pms and I always enjoyed his posts here, especially his deer camp. He was a good man. It's a very sad day.

Godspeed, Bill.
