Gentlemen, I need your advice. I need an estimate on the value of an Encore barrel and extras that have been offered to me. The barrel is a stainless custom shop chambered in 7x57 It comes with a DNZ scope base and two boxes of 175gr ammunition. What would be a fair price to pay? Thanks John

Custom shop barrels have always demanded higher prices since its SS with the extras and used I'd say somewhere around $300-350 would be fair.I have two SS fluted custom shop barrels for my Pro Hunter both used and paid under $300 each a couple years ago but don't see many 7x57's.

You have to look at it like this.. Ed in OKC sells brand new MGM barrels now that the Custom Shop has closed. He sells new ones for $300 stainless and and $285 blued. Being a Custom Shop doesn't add a lot of money to it. You can buy a new stainless barrel from MGM for $350.

Unless I find a TC 7x57 barrel (custom shop is irrelevant), for under $250, I'll order a stainless from MGM for $350-400. Any given TC mfg barrel may/may not be a 'shooter'. Any given MGM barrel will almost always be a shooter. Just my POV, but I buy TC barrels when they're economical, and custom mfg barrels when it has to be right and worth the $.
A serious Encore collector probably views the value differently, if you run across one.

Web site for Ed in OKC? If it's the same one I've seen before he never responds to e-mails.

You don't email Ed.. he gets too many calls and emails to respond to them.. you have to call him. He is not a conversationalist.. but he loves TC's and treats people better than anybody I have ever dealt with. He works a full time job and does this on his free time.

You only need to satisfy one person that the deal is good enough and that person is you. If you want the caliber and a barrel is available, along with ammo, do it. If you were to order a new MGM barrel, the wait might be 8-12 weeks and that is time you could spend in the field with it.

The person I'm dealing with is offering a custom shop barrel in 7x57 with two boxes of Federal 175gr ammo, and a DNZ scope mount. I've got a BCD4 code Mauser barreled action in 257 Roberts he wants to trade for even. The action needs a little tlc in my opinion. Re blue, and index the barrel so the legend is located properly. Or, rechamber to 25-06

What he is offering you is worth $300.00 in my estimation.

$250.00 for all of it. $275.00 if it's like new and it trips your trigger.

Keep in mind you can buy a new MGM barrel in the length you want for about $350 if you don't mind waiting for it and it will come with a Warne scope base.
