FAIRBANKS � A moose has reportedly been killed by a bear at the Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright.
The third and final round of the Jose Body and Paint/Fairbanks Golf Association Amateur Championship is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday at Chena Bend.
Attempts Thursday night by the News-Miner to obtain confirmation from the Fort Wainwright Garrison�s pubic affairs office about the moose kill were unsuccessful.
Megan Peters, spokesperson for the Alaska State Troopers, said Thursday night that the troopers did not receive a report of the incident.
A person at the Chena Bend registration desk asked not to be identified but said, �That is the general consensus,� when asked about the moose kill.
Pat DeRuyter, chairperson of the FGA Amateur Championship, heard a rumor about a moose kill at Chena Bend and she called the golf course. The person she spoke with said the moose kill occurred in an area between the sixth and seventh holes of the golf course.
The incident, said DeRuyter, could lead to changes for the amateur championship, which begins today.
�That would be up to the (tournament) committee,� DeRuyter said.
Possible changes, she said, were moving the third round to a different course or making the tournament a two-day competition.
The tournament starts today at 2 p.m. at the Fairbanks Golf Course. The second round is scheduled for Saturday at the North Star Golf Club in Fairbanks, with tee times starting at 9 a.m.

The Army is prolly pretty scart of bears right now as JBER has been getting in the news plenty recently with maulings . You'd think they would figure out that gun free zones
and bears don't go together well.

I've golfed at a layout near Anchorage, back in the 90's. Pretty nice course, too. A few of the greens had damage from moose hooves...
