I am thinking about getting a 6.5 Creedmoor before deer season. How does this cal work as a deer round?? What is a good platform for this cal?? Thanks for the help. Rob

Seriously though what deer is going to resist a well placed .264 bullet of proper construction? Ruger, Savage, and Weatherby is where I'd start looking. Buy the one that has the features you want in your price range and all will be well come deer season.

The 6.5 CM was developed to overcome the shortcomings of the .260 with regard to long bullets in 2.8 inch magazines. Otherwise, there's no practical difference between them ballistically, or for that matter, with the 6.5X55 loaded to its potential in suitable rifles. All are fine rounds.

Ruger has a number of rifles chambered in 6.5CM and though I'm not a big Savage guy, they have a lightweight job that looks interesting.

I suggest you include the .260 and maybe the Swede as well to give yourself more choices. The deer will never know the difference.

I'm not a real big Savage fan,but I couldn't resist a model 11 lightweight hunter in 6.5 Creed.
5 1/2 pounds dry,and empty.

Mounted a Vx 3 2.5 x 8.
Shoots factory rounds good enough,and my handloads great!!!

No deer experience yet,but hogs are not a problem.

I really like the 11 lightweight hunter!!! I am also interested in the Ruger Predator also! I am heading to Cabelas to see if they have one in stock.

I've also seen some guys do 6.5 CM custom builds (custombolt did one I recall). So my point is that the 6.5cm is being used as a deer caliber. You shouldn't hesitate, it's a solid choice.

I've got two 6.5 creedmoor in my collection. Seems this is becoming one of my favorite calibers, with plenty of others to choose from. The 6.5 creedmoor is a fine cartridge, capable of taking game at long distances, and deadly accurate.

I endorse the RAR as Seafire suggested. Good mild recoiling round.

I'm chompin at the bit. I've had a Ruger Predator ordered at my lgs for about 2 mos. Mine is in the 6.5 creedmoor. I've been pickin up a little ammo. It should be a great little hunting round.......Redworm

I would like one but I think I want one in a Hawkeye.

I'd go for the Hawkeye for long term, but the American would be my choice if I just wanted to play.

The 1As they made for a while were nice too.

The perfect rifle would be a stainless Hawkeye, with the UltraLight stock and a 22" light barrel. Gives me the vapors just thinkin' about it.

+1 on the Ruger Hawkeye Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. Mine is the bomb.

Perfect would be a Ruger #1 RSI, 20" mannlicher, all you need, well sans modest power high quality glass, and a Kepplinger set trigger for grins.

One shot, that's all.

make no mistake, the hawkeye costs twice as much as the Merican, but its also about twice the gun of the Merican. I've got two of the Merican predators, 18" .308 and 22" .223. The 18" handles and balances like a dream, the 22" isn't in the same league of sexiness. the 22" is currently at the shop getting chopped to 18" ...

the Merican is also extra-plasticky, whereas the hawkeye is much more substantial. the Mericans sure do shoot nice, though ...

What I really want is an 8twist 6.5 Swede and some modern loading recipes but, sadly, it seems that that will never happen.

There were some Ruger 1a's floating around in the swede with an 8 in. twist.

I've never been a savage guy either. Not really a Ruger guy at all and Remington I'll use their KS rifles, until I purchased a 6.5 CM in the Savage light weight hunter......unreal really. Still savage action feel(slightly sloppy) and the metal work finish is less than desirable compared to many other manufacturers....but the fit and finish of overall product was great. Nice wood, Pachmayer Decelerator pad, accu trigger and very light weight. The best part is that it shoots LIGHTS OUT! Trip to trip to the range it proves to be one of my most accurate factory rifles. Sub 1 inch regardless of the day and I've had one big hole on good days. All at 100 yds. I'd say give that savage a try. I bought a second just to see if it was similar except I bought the 10 predator. Shoots great, not as good as light weight job. Sub inch all day every day, but not single hole groups. I'll sell the 10 predator if your interested.

Well, I already have one of the first year Ruger Hawkeyes, but I sure have a desire for one of the Weatherby Vanguard IIs...
