I think I want to try a Swarovski Z6; 2.5-15x44BT or 3-18x50BT.
Pretty pricey, who is or has hunted one? Reticle recommendations? Illuminated or not? Will be replacing a Swaro PV 3-12x50, plex, on my 270 Wby mag.

I have two Z6's in 2.5-15x44 BT and some Z5's also. I recently purchased a Z5 5-25x52BT and noticed the plex reticle was heavier than the original plex reticles. I called Swarovski and they finally changed there plex reticle. I ended up sending back 5 scopes to have the reticle changed.I guess to answer your question the Z6 is a hell of a scope but I like the Z5 3-18x44BT better.

I have a Z5 3-18x44BT with a #4 reticle that I have not mounted and used yet. What do you like better, other than weight, about the Z5?

Weight is the only difference that I can see. Optically I don't see much difference at all. Believe me if your set on a Z6 go for it, it is a great scope. I just don't see where you need to spend the extra money for the Z6 when optically I don't see any difference.

The best all-around scope I've ever used (and have 3 on rifles) is the 3-10x42 (I've 1 of the earlier models and two Z3's) and I have 1 Z6 - an illuminated 1-6x24 with the circle dot - for me that's the only reason to go to a Z6 0 the unique zoom range and the illuminated reticle.

I've never owned a Z5 but if I ever felt the need for a long range scope I probably never will but if I felt I needed an illuminated reticle I'd buy a Z6 otherwise it would be a Z5 - less weight and less money.

I'm glad to hear the Z5 has a heavier duplex. My 3.5-18x44 BT had such a fine duplex, I sent it back for a German #4.

Not me but have watched a Z6 on my pal's 300 Weatherby for a few years now,and have shot it a good deal myself. It seems rugged enough as it has not blinked in that time.

He has hunted it a fair amount and is happy with his.

I had a 1st Generation Z6 in 3-18x50. For my eyes, it optics were superb. Mechanically, though, the repeatibility of its BT simply was not there.
I swapped it for a Leica ER-i 3-12 and now enjoy both best in class optics with mechanical reliability.

I love the Z6 lineup and have a 3-18x50 BT on order for a 270 Wby. It will be illuminated, have the 4W reticle, and a turret matched to the 150 gr VLD. There are plenty of other options that would work but I'm really looking forward to using this setup.

The 2-12x50 is also very nice but I wanted more legs with the 3-18.

I have a brand new Z6 2.5-15x56 in my gunsafe waiting for my custom 300WM hunting rifle. I am usually a Nightforce guy, but this rifle will be used for heavier timber & yardages under 350 yds, so I decided to give the Z6 a try after getting great feedback and some research.

Looking through the glass, its damn nice.......can't wait to field test it!!!!

I've got a pile of the 2-12x50 with the tds reticle. Hard to find, but my all time favorite scope. Have one of the 2.5-15x44 BT's that I like also, but I might send it down the road to get another TDS.

Great scopes, I own two. That said, I've learned...Get a Meopta and save yourself a ton of money.
